OUR MISSION
What is the problem?
There are a lot of harmful gases released into the air caused by the burning of fuels to facilitate the high electricity usage.
What will you do about the problem?
We want to help to lower the amount of harmful gases released due to the burning to fossil fuels. We will raise awareness about the high levels of harmful gases there are in the atmosphere.
Why do you want to reduce this problem?
The many gases released in the process of burning fuels are harmful to the environment as well as to human’s health. By helping to reduce such emissions, we can help to save the environment.
Problem statement-
We are students of Crescent Girls’ School. We want to promote awareness among the public about the harmful effects of electricity wastage, and the amount of air pollution that they contribute to the environment. We will educate the public on ways to reduce energy wastage by putting up posters, and giving out brochures. By doing this, the amount of air pollution and electricity wastage will be significantly reduced due to the increase of knowledge and understanding.

Seek sponsorship from a non-profit organisation. Then, hand out flyers on a populated street/area.
-Why will it solve the problem
This will help raise awareness in the public and teach them the dangers of wasting electricity and ways to reduce it.
B. Website
-How will it solve the problem?
We will host a website that is created by us using original material.
-Why will it solve the problem?
We will post artocles to educate the people on the harmful effects of electricity wastage amd ways to reduce it.
C. House visit
-How will it be done?
We will visit HDB houses and help the occupants recognise ways that can save electricity, and money in their homes.
-Why will its solve the problem?
They would be more aware on how to save electricity. They could then inform their friends and neighbours.
D.Podcast
-How will it be done?
We would record and post up this information on itunes amd the crescent site. We will record the ways of reducing wastage of electricity.
-Why will it solve the problem?
This would maximise the number of people's awareness as a lot of people nowadays uses itunes and the internet.

As we all know, electrical appliances containing heating devices consume the most electricity. When you switch on the water heater the heater will heat up the tank of water. When it reaches the preset temperature, the thermostat will cut out the power supply and will re-heat the water when thetemperature drops below the preset temperature. Heating and re-heating continue as long as the heater is switched on.This post will mainly focus on water heaters, whether used in showers or for washing dishes, and laundry. Heaters are found everywhere in the house, but mainly used for showering purposes for heating up water. There are many types of water heaters to choose from, some more energy consuming than others. We will introduce to you the three main types of water heaters that can be used in homes.STORAGE WATER HEATER: It is suitable for single or multi-point applications and bulkusage. Eg if hot water is required in the bathroom and atkitchen sink, only one storage water heater is needed.INSTANTANEOUS WATER HEATER: It is compact and easy to mount on the bathroom wall andeasy to operate. You need only to switch on just before use.GAS WATER HEATER: It is easy to use.It is easily installed at a well-ventilated location and hotwater can be piped to several hot water points in yourhome. If you are choosing a gas heater, it should be installedoutside the bathroom.Tip: Switch it on for about 20 minutes before taking a bath, then switch it off after use.

Hello! From LouderThanWord's first post, we have seen positive response from the public as well as friends. We will try to update this blog and post as often as time permits, and when ever we have new information to share. We would like to thank all of you who have supported us, and we hope that you will continue to do so in the long run.Singapore as a tropical climate that has temperatures that are constantly in the 30s. Due to that fact that it is very hot, most families will have air conditioners installed. As a result, many families will have discarded their fans in favour of aircons, because aircons also have a fan mode, which performs the same functions as a regular standing fan. However, having the aircon in fan mode would consume 20 times as much electricity as compared to using a standing fan. This will also incur 20 times the cost of a standing fan. Moreover, fans are more efficient for air circulation.Tip: If you must use the aircon, set the timer of your air-con to switch off after certain hours of usage especially when the weather is not as hot, example at dawn.

Hello!
We are LouderThanWords and this is our first post.
In this post, we will be talking about how to save electricity.
Singapore is a very high tech and modern country.
Thus, there are many people who own electrical appliances.
When people uses these appliances, they leave them on standby mode when they are no in use.
Examples are the computer, television and microwave.
But, do they consume energy when they are in standby mode?
Electricity is consumed when an equipment is left on the standby mode.
Although it is minimal, it can become substantial if many appliances are left on standby mode over a long period of time.
Thus, it is important for you to off everything when you are not using them to save electricity and money.
Tips: Switch off home appliances completely if the equipment are not being used for a long period of time. Eg.when going on a long holiday
ELECTRICITY WASTAGE IN OUR HOMES
Electricity wastage is a big problem, with fossil fuels being wasted as they are burned to generate electricity.
With the escalating fuel prices, electricity is not cheap, and it is not economical to waste electricity either.
The Uniform Singapore Energy Price jumped 17.7 per cent from March to hit $173 per megawatt hour (MWh) in April of 2008.
According to The Straits Times, wasted energy accounts for an average of at least 10 per cent of household bills in most countries, including Singapore.
This can be attributed to the three-fold increase in the number of households installing air conditioners.
The cost of leaving appliances plugged in while not using them can work out to $14.80 each month, or $177.60 a year for private apartments which spend an average of $148 a month on energy.
However, this wastage can be significantly cut down if we take note of it, and recognise potential wastage.
